So I went back and looked at some of my posts from before the big vacation. And I found the one where I did a list of goals for 2008. Well it’s almost 2010, but I figured I would see where I am on those things. I’m not even going to try to make some goals for 2009. They were mainly the repeat of 2008. So here they are:
- Get a decent paying job: Well I ended up going back to school this semester. I was awarded a fellowship/scholarship. It comes with a monthly stipend and an internship. So in a way I accomplished this.
- Get my own apartment: Done and done. It’s in my name, no co-signer. I’m the only on the lease. And I pay for everything. Right on.
- Get License and car: this is still a no go. I’ve started riding the bus, but still no inclination to get a car. I think I’m going to try sometime next semester. I want to go and get my permit again this month.
- Open a high-yield savings account: Yeah I opened one up but I don’t really have much in there. I think maybe $5.
- Submit to Five publishers: since I lost my computer I haven’t been able to work on my writings like I wanted to. So this is still a no go.
- Finish draft one of my first novel: Check. I finished it a while back in 2008. I think I wrote about it.
- Write draft two of my first completed short story: Semi check I started it and then lost Shiba chan.
- Catalog my paperback collection: Yeah I pretty much no longer have that collection. I’m starting another book collection. But I guess I need to catalog that one now too.
- Catalog my DVD collection: I’ve at least got them all in one of those travel case. I need to do this soon.
- Throw two parties: Well now that I’ve got my own place I can start working on that.
- Read nine non-fiction books: I now I’ve got this one done. I can’t remember the titles but I’ve read so much this past year that it has to be double-checked
- Read nine new fiction authors: Again double-check this one. I’ve even got some reviews I wrote up on some.
- Lose a healthy amount of weight: Still working on that. I’ve gone vegetarian. That’s a post for another day.
- Participate in NaNoWriMo: I lost shiba-chan right before it was suppose to start. I’m going to do it this year I promise.
- Write ten articles for Helium: Ehhh I gave up on helium. I just wasn’t feeling it anymore.
Well that’s it for now. I’ve got some major reading to do for class, some writing to catch up, clean before my sister comes tomorrow. Talk to you guys later!

It’s been a while since I did an installment to the Reason Behind the Dreams series. I decided to merge four of them into one post, #4-7: France, New York City, California, and Hawaii. I know the last post have been traveling, but never fear this one will be the second to last one.
So why France?
Well France is really about the same things as England was. Historical academic need. France to me is right up there with England, on the places to see for historical sites. You have the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, Musee National du Moyen Age-Thermes et Hotel de Cluny, The Catacombs, the Pantheon, and several different ancient ruins. And that’s just in Paris. France is also the heart of the fashion world, I would love to see a fashion show in the France while I’m there. And just like in England I’m going to need an additional trip to see it all.
New York
New York is just one of those places you have to see in order to understand it. There’s historical sites there, but because I don’t have the same affinity for American history as I do for European history, they don’t hold the same joy for me. For America New York is the heart of fashion, so again a fashion show and a all-out shopping spree. Plus a authentic slice of New York Pizza has my name on it.
California
Another great American state you’ve got to see to believe. Really this one is just say I’ve gone across the country before, shallow I know.
Hawaii
The sandy beaches, the coconut drinks, and the exotic food…need I say more?

I just like everyone else tend to make some sort of New Years Resolutions, although I’m not into the label New Years Resolutions. I rather call them goals. Nevertheless, when the new year came about I too was busy making goals. I probably should have posted these goals sometime in the early month, but I like to take the whole month of December too come up with my yearly goals. Unfortunately this December was hectic and busy and I just couldn’t wrapped my head around what was happening in the future. I however I was able to make some small goals for January and I wanted to share with you on how I’ve done so far.
- Look for places to apply: 100%. Although this is currently an ongoing goal until I find employment. As it stands I have applied to a total of 8 places (although I pretty sure that the number is higher but I can’t remember nor find my list as of now.)
- Gain full time employment: Not done. Soon…soon.
- Write out 2008 goals: I’m still counting this as a work in progress. I’m not quite happy with it so I know I will more than likely revisit it from time to time. But for this exercise it’s completed.
- Write out plan of action for 2008: This is complete, although it is preliminary (not the correct word but the correct word escapes me for now.) I general have a working idea of what I need to do in order to accomplish my goals for the year.
- Start a 101 goals in 1001 days: Completed… I have started it but I’m no where near done. I think I’ve got maybe 25 goals so far.
Summary: I didn’t really have that many goals for this month since I didn’t have much time to think about it. But the ones I did have, I’ve manage to complete about 80% of them. But that means the ones that weren’t completed have to be pushed to February.
Since January is now over I can share with you my 2008 goals as they stand now:
- Get a decent paying job – if need be get a part time job
- Get own apartment
- Get license and car (I’ve managed to put this off until now, but it’s starting to become more of an hassle to be in the south without a reliable mode of transportation.
- Open an high-yield savings account (which with the stock issues now I need to get on this as soon as possible)
- Submit to Five publishers: started compiling a list of interested publishers
- Finish draft one of my first novel
- Write draft two of my first completed short story
- Catalog my paperback collection
- Catalog my DVD collection
- Throw two parties
- Read nine non-fiction books
- Read nine new fiction authors
- Loose an healthy amount of weight: joined the National Body challenge
- Participate NaNoWriMo: signed up
- Write 10 articles for Helium: 1/10
- Monetary goals: I’m holding off on making these until I receive employment and I have an knowledge of my expected income.
With that in mind, what are my February goals? Still working on those. I should have them ready by tomorrow if not Monday at the latest.

Time for another post to the ongoing series of dissecting my dreams. So far we have discussed Egypt and Japan. Today’s post is about England. This dream is purely academic. If you’ve read my About Me page, then you would know that I just recently graduated from college with a BA in History (speaking of which my degree just finally arrived in the mail, they said late January not the very last day..hurumph!). I specialize (although unofficially) in Pre-Renaissance European History (along with Egyptology).
In today’s Euro-centric world, England plays a major part in our understanding of modern history. Although I don’t always agree with many other scholars that civilization started in Western Europe, I do believe you can’t have a valid understanding of civilization without a in-depth understanding of Europe, specifically England. There is so much historical places to found in England alone. The House of Parliament, Stonehenge, The Tower of London, the Roman Baths, not to mention the various castle and cathedrals. Truthfully I don’t think I could cover all the places I would like to go in one trip. I would more than likely need an additional trip just to cover it all.
Another reason why I would like to go to England is because I had an old boss who’s family was from England, they came over when she was five. Her and her mother talked so fondly of the old country and I would love to see some of the places they described.

Part two of this series encompasses my dream to visit Japan. My love for Japan comes from its past, not so much it’s present. Although I am quite interested to see its future. Japan is a unique country with an equally unique culture. Somehow they have managed to come fully into the 21st century while still observing much of its past traditions. Only in Japan can you go from high tech city to a bus ride out to the country and see traditional Japanese living.
I’ve had the privilege to study the Japanese language for about six years, and although I don’t profess any kind of proficiency, I would like the chance to go and converse with the locals. Going to Japan, doesn’t involve any religious meanings for me. But it’s still a major dream of mine.

A while back I posted a list of my dreams, and promised to fill in the reasons behind them. Well here’s the first one: I want to visit Egypt.
If you have taken the time to read my About Me Page, then you would know that I have a History degree. I’ve always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt, since I can remember. When I was in high-school I attempted to teach myself how to read hieroglyph, and I still plan on learning someday.
Why Egypt? Well I think it’s rather simple really. A lot of people trace civilization back to the Egyptians. After all they did give us a lot that we use today viz the romans and the Greeks. They were self contained and self educated. They also had a simple rule in the society…keeping maat. Maat is basically translated into keeping things in order. I like order.
For the Egyptians war was not maat, war was to be avoided by all means necessary. But that didn’t mean they were not above defending their way of life against intruders. Unlike the Romans and Greeks who were quick to jump into battle (although they explained away as the other people forced them to go to war with them and then take over their peoples *insert a sarcastic face here*) the Egyptians were slow to raise arms. war meant a disruption in their main focus of life. Religion. For Egyptians there was nothing else but religion, there was no separation between the government and religion. Religion was the government.
The idea of a total religion based society that evolved into something grand and intricate and verbalized here on the physical plane through such monuments as the pyramids, is a enthralling thing for me. The Egyptians had a unique way of looking at the world and you can’t really find that view point in any other ancient society.
For me Egypt is my Mecca.

Four days before my 23rd birthday I have realized that, I have lost sight of my life goals. I believe that it happened sometime during college most likely during the end of my sophomore year. The next semester I switched majors and ever since then I’ve been kind of going with the flow. Not really knowing where I was going and why, it’s disconcerting to me. When I started college, I pretty much had my whole life planned and mapped out. But looking back now I realized that I really didn’t have much of a plan I just had a few dreams and ideas in my head. What about now, I recognize that I still have some of those dreams and ideas in my head, and it’s time to get them and the new ones in writing. I always feel a since of commitment to something if I write it out and put it on a list. I always make list, I guess it’s my OCD kicking in. I function on list, without a list, I’m utterly lost.
Right now they are all lumped together and not really defined as time goes on I will elaborate and probably add on goals. My life goals are:
1) I want to visit Egypt
2) I want to visit Japan
3) I want to visit England
4) I want to visit France
5) I want to visit New York City
6) I want to visit California
7) I want to visit Hawaii
I want to take a cruise through the Caribbean
9) I want to became a published writer
10) I want to custom build a house
11) I want a emergency fund = to 9 months of living expenses
12) I want a net worth of 1 million dollars
13) I want to be debt free by retirement
As you can see, that’s a hefty list. I have reasons for wanting all these things but like I said I’ll fill that in later. How close am I to any of these goals? Nowhere near close.
